LinkedIn Banner Size (1584 x 396) + Free Resizer

Ruz · Updated Oct 21, 2026 · 6 min read

The LinkedIn banner size is 1584 x 396 pixels. That is a 4:1 ratio, saved as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. Company Page covers are a different size: 1512 x 256 pixels, under 3 MB. Both numbers come from LinkedIn Help, and both are below.

Knowing the number is the easy half. Your profile photo covers part of the banner, and a phone shows a shorter slice of it than a laptop does, so a line of text that looks centred in your design tool can end up behind your own face. Drop an image into the resizer below, switch the overlay on, and you can see what survives before you upload.

Banner, cover photo, cover image, background photo and header all mean the same picture. LinkedIn Help calls it the cover image. It also says plainly that GIFs are not supported.

LinkedIn banner dimensions, and why 1584 x 396

A 4:1 ratio is the shape LinkedIn renders the cover in, and 1584 pixels is wide enough to stay sharp on a high-density screen. You can export larger at the same ratio, say 3168 x 792, and LinkedIn will scale it down. Going narrower than 1584 is where banners start to look soft, because the image gets stretched up to fill the space.

Where your profile photo covers the banner

On desktop your profile photo sits over the lower left of the cover, as a circle. Measured from LinkedIn's own stylesheet for its public profile pages, the photo is a 128 pixel circle on a 784 pixel wide cover, 24 pixels in from the left, pulled 100 pixels up over a 196 pixel tall cover. Scaled to a 1584 x 396 file, that is a circle about 259 pixels across, starting about 49 pixels from the left, covering the bottom 202 pixels of the image. In short: the photo hides roughly the left 19% of the width and the bottom half of the height.

On a phone the crop changes too. The same stylesheet renders the cover at about 5.8:1 instead of 4:1, so a phone shows the middle 69% of your banner's height and trims the rest, with a photo that is proportionally much bigger. Anything in the top or bottom strip of your design is simply not there on mobile.

Two rules follow from that:

  1. Keep text, logos and faces in the right two thirds of the image.
  2. Keep them in the middle band vertically, not near the top or bottom edge.

The overlay in the resizer draws both layouts over your own image, so you can check it instead of guessing. The numbers are close measurements of LinkedIn's current layout, not a published specification, so leave yourself a margin.

Why your LinkedIn banner looks blurry

  • It is too small. Start at 1584 x 396 or larger at the same ratio. Upscaling a small image always looks soft.
  • It is over-compressed. LinkedIn recompresses what you upload. Export a high-quality JPG closer to the file limit rather than a tiny one.
  • It is mostly text. Photos survive compression better than fine text and logos. LinkedIn Help says the same thing.
  • Your screen is cropping it. LinkedIn notes that how the image appears changes with browser window size and screen resolution, so keep the key details near the centre.

Company Page banner size

LinkedIn Help lists 1512 x 256 pixels for a Company Page cover image, as a PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB. Plenty of guides still say 1128 x 191. That is the old size. If your Page cover looks stretched or cropped oddly, re-export it at 1512 x 256. LinkedIn also recommends keeping key details away from the edges of a Page cover, especially the lower right corner, because the image is adjusted to fit different screens.

Switch the resizer to the Company Page preset and it crops to 1512 x 256 instead.

What to put on your LinkedIn banner

Your banner is the first thing people see when they click through from one of your posts. Give it a job:

  1. Say what you do in one line. Big, short, readable on a phone.
  2. Point to your free resource. A line like "Comment GUIDE on my latest post" turns profile visits into conversations.
  3. Add proof. A logo row, a result, or a number you can stand behind.
  4. Match your headline. Same promise, same words. If you need one, try the LinkedIn Headline Generator.

Then run the whole profile through the LinkedIn Profile Optimizer. It checks your banner, headline, About section and more, and tells you what to fix first.

FAQ

What is the LinkedIn banner size?

1584 x 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio, as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. That is the size LinkedIn Help recommends for the cover image on a personal profile.

What are the LinkedIn banner dimensions in inches?

LinkedIn works in pixels, not inches. Design at 1584 x 396 pixels. If your design tool asks for inches, 22 x 5.5 inches at 72 DPI is the same thing.

Is the LinkedIn cover photo the same as the banner?

Yes. Banner, cover photo, cover image, background photo and header all refer to the wide image at the top of your profile.

What is the LinkedIn company banner size?

1512 x 256 pixels, as a PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB, according to LinkedIn's image specifications for Pages. The older 1128 x 191 size is out of date.

What is the LinkedIn profile photo size?

LinkedIn Help accepts anything from 400 x 400 up to 7680 x 4320 pixels, as a PNG or JPG under 8 MB. A square image is best, since the photo is displayed as a circle.

Can I use a GIF as my LinkedIn banner?

No. LinkedIn Help lists PNG and JPG for profile images and says GIFs are not supported.

Why is my LinkedIn banner cut off on mobile?

A phone renders the cover shorter than a laptop does, so the top and bottom of your image are trimmed and your profile photo covers more of what is left. Keep the important content in the middle band and check it with the overlay above.
